Are you interested in the Swedish Language special interest group (SIG)?

Join us on ZOOM to learn, re-fresh, and share their own experiences in Swedish, and build connection within the club. We explore the plentiful language learning resources while having a unique connection.

Meeting structure of the SIG is a work in progress and will be determined by the SIG participants, we have a few ideas to get started. A key element of language learning is practice, so we suggest a weekly (perhaps biweekly) “chat” session via Zoom to converse and read short articles.

    Connect with Us
We want to find ways to connect the Swedish Language SIG participants, especially during the virtual-only period. There is a new, private Facebook group “Swedish Language Practice Group for SCC”, and can be a space to share resources and information about events. Please request to join the private group, and/or email the Swedish Language co-leads Ruth Briland ( and Jane Kozak ( We will also keep the SCC members informed through updates to the board and contributions to the newsletter.

Så ock på jorden (Heaven on Earth) -- Sweden 2015

Director: Kay Pollak, the Director of As It Is in Heaven. Run time: 2 h 14 m. Starring: Frida Hallgren, Niklas Falk, and Jakob Oftebro. Award: 2016 Guldbagge. (English subtitles).

“Heaven on Earth” is the sequel to the touching, soaring Swedish movie, “As it is in Heaven”, which we viewed in 2021. It was about a developing choir finding its “voice”, the colorful village characters, and its world-renowned, quiet conductor who returned to his hometown and became the choir director. Adventures awaited this choir.

“Heaven on Earth” takes up where the last story left off: Choir director Daniel Dareus’ soprano and love interest, Lena, is now a widow, pregnant, and alone. She gives birth to their child during a blizzard with only the village’s inebriated priest to awkwardly help her. Because this intense birthing experience created a bond between the two, Lena agrees to bring music to the church and, therefore, people to the church. However, just as music and dancing inspire joy, they also spark fear and jealousy.

What new adventures and surprises await the characters and village? Regular folks, with Lena as the new choir director, take on and meet almost insurmountable challenges with tenacity, creativity, "can-do spirit", and developing self-confidence.

We, as fans of “As It is in Heaven”, will be pleased by the heartfelt continuation of the characters and storyline begun in the original movie, handled with a delicate combination of humor, mischievousness, and utter joviality.

    • 6:30 PM Social by Zoom (also, in-person, if possible. TBD later).
    • 6:45 PM Movie start, including a 10-minute intermission midway through the movie.
