Kampen om Tungvannet (The Heavy Water War) -- Norway 2015

Director: Per-Olav Sørensen. TWO Movie Event Sequence: Run time: 25 Mar Session 1- 2 h 14 m. 08 Apr Session 2- 2 h 13 m. Starring: Anna Friel, Espen Klouman Høiner, Maibritt Saerens, and Christoph Bach. (English subtitles).

This movie, “Kampen om Tungvannet" ("The Heavy Water War"), is one of the most compelling stories of World War II. "The Heavy Water War" tells the story of one of the most dramatic but least known chapters of World War II: Nazi Germany’s attempt to build a nuclear bomb and the Allied effort to prevent it. British intelligence and the Norwegian military are engaged in a heroic struggle to thwart Nazi Germany's atomic bomb ambitions by sabotaging the heavy water plant in Rjukan, Norway.

The story behind Hitler's plan for Germany to create and use the atomic bomb in World War II and behind the heavy water sabotages is presented from five viewpoints: Nazi Germany, the Allied Forces (including the British intelligence and the Americans), the Norwegian saboteurs, the Norwegian civilian bystanders, and the Norwegian leadership of the Norsk Hydro plant. The movie represents these perspectives well and develops its characters richly. The movie, also, provides insights into key people, for example, the scientists, military, industry decision-makers, of that era, and their motivations and dilemmas, including moral dilemmas.
